Points leader Line charging towards Maple Grove Raceway with history on his side

(10-1-2014) MOORESVILLE, NC – Last season, Summit Racing NHRA Pro Stock driver Jason Line came to Maple Grove Raceway with some ground to make up if he was to have a chance at the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series championship, but this season, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver will arrive with the points lead in hand. That doesn't take the pressure off – not even in the slightest – but history is on Line's side as the tour slides into town for the 30th annual NHRA Nationals.

Line, who made his first Reading race a decade ago in 2004, has been low qualifier at the event four times and has a perfect record in Maple Grove final rounds with wins scored in 2004 over Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson and in 2011 over then-KB Racing teammate Ronnie Humphrey.

Perhaps even more notably, however, is Line's... [Read More]

In professional action, three of the five Nitro Jam classes have already secured their champions entering the event, with Jason Rupert, Ron Maroney and Elaine Larsen locking up the Nitro Funny Car, Nitro Altered and Jet Dragster titles respectively, but big money and even more championships are on the line when the IHRA returns to Memphis for the most exciting race of the year.

Enders-Stevens continues championship charge at Maple Grove

(10-1-2014) NEW ORLEANS, LA – The battle for the 2014 Pro Stock championship moves to Maple Grove Raceway for this weekend's NHRA Nationals, and Elite Motorsports driver Erica Enders-Stevens is motivated to get to the top.

She has won four times this season and is third in the Pro Stock points standings at the halfway point of the Countdown to the Championship. She's a little more than three rounds out of first place, though, with three races remaining this season.

"I'm really excited, really confident," Enders-Stevens said. "Things are going to go down to the wire, and that's what makes Pro Stock all the more exciting. It's going to be a dogfight, and we're right in the mix."

Enders-Stevens is 67 points behind leader Jason Line and 41 behind second-place Dave Connolly after a semifinal finish... [Read More]

Norwalk winner Coughlin returns to fight for another trophy at Shakedown event

(10-1-2014) DELAWARE, OH – The last time world champion Pro Mod racer Troy Coughlin Sr. competed at the Bader family's beautiful dragstrip in northwest Ohio he ended the day in the winner's circle. Now, Coughlin returns for another bite of the apple in the Outlaw Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Tires special event, hoping for another victory in his home state.

"Certainly with winning the NHRA national event there a few months back our confidence in racing at Norwalk remains sky-high," said Coughlin, who hails from Delaware, Ohio, in the suburbs of Columbus. "Bill Bader and his family have built such a wonderful facility and they really cater to the fans and the racers. It's always a lot of fun to race there, especially when you end the day with the trophy."

Swinging for the fences, Brogdon hopes to hit a home run in Reading

(9-30-2014) TOMBALL, TX – While Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon didn't get the opportunity to put in extra track time at Gateway Motorsports Park this week, he still has a plan of attack for the NHRA Nationals this weekend in Reading.

"We decided not to stay and test at Gateway due to other obligations back at home," Brogdon said. "We're going to go to Reading though and change everything in that car, front to back. It'll be a whole different car when we get there than it was this past weekend. We're going in a whole different direction, that's for sure.

"We're not starting from scratch but we're making some major moves in the four-link area since we can't get it in the 330-foot area."

The Owens Corning Camaro has continued to show improvements from previous race weekends even though event timing... [Read More]

Defending event champion Coughlin needs a repeat to gain ground in playoff race

(9-30-2014) DELAWARE, OH – Midway through NHRA's six-race Countdown to the Championship, reigning Pro Stock titlist Jeg Coughlin Jr. is locked in a battle for the 2014 crown against the top drivers in the factory hot rod class. Currently seventh in the rankings, 133 points off the lead, the 58-time national event winner knows a big showing in this weekend's NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway is imperative.

"We've got a bit of a climb ahead of us but we're still pushing hard to achieve our ultimate goal of defending our title," said Coughlin, a five-time Pro Stock champion. "We ran well in St. Louis after making some pretty big changes to the car, and we're going to continue to push the envelope this weekend in Reading to try and close the gap.

"The exciting thing about being in the position we're in is... [Read More]

Ready to turn heads, Morgan heads to Maple Grove Raceway

(9-30-2014) NEWARK, OH – Competing in a professional division with races decided in inches, Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan is a firm believer that anything can and will happen during the NHRA Nationals this weekend in Reading.

Morgan is no stranger to the fast conditions that Maple Grove Raceway offers; mixed with the right weather conditions, the chance for the unthinkable to happen is there. While he may have won there before in another division, Morgan isn't ready to count his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang out of the hunt this weekend.

"I've won there before, just not in Pro Stock," Morgan said. "I could do it again this time, you never know. Anything can happen in these Pro Stock races; we've seen that many times. The field is so close together that it's anyone's race to win, even ours.

"We may not seem like... [Read More]
