» Erica Enders-Stevens NHRA FallNationals Final Race Report
After Dallas, Enders-Stevens' championship race is heating up

(9-21-2014) ENNIS, TX – While the extreme temperatures weren't kind to Texas native Erica Enders-Stevens Sunday, her Mach 1 Global Services Pro Stock Camaro continued to heat up the lanes in eliminations despite her early exit from the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals.

Even though her first-round match had Elite Motorsports power facing off, Enders-Stevens powered her Mach 1 Global Services Chevrolet past Rodger Brogdon's Camaro with a 6.646-second pass at 209.49 mph.

However, Enders-Stevens was in a race of mere inches during the second round between her and Jonathan Gray. With reaction times within thousandths, Enders-Stevens' .030 to Gray's .023, her red Camaro was just edged out at the finish line despite making the second-quickest pass of the round at 6.599 seconds.

Norwalk winner Coughlin can't pull off sweep of home-state national events

(9-21-2014) HEBRON, OH – With more than a dozen world titles and 100-plus victories, it's hard to find something the drag racing Coughlin family hasn't accomplished, and yet Mike Coughlin had a chance to pull off a rare home-state double this weekend at the JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be as the Norwalk winner of two months ago couldn't find the winner's circle in Hebron despite his best efforts.

"We tried," Coughlin said. "The JEGS.com Camaro is just not where we want it to be consistency-wise at the moment and it bit us here at National Trail. It's a bummer because it would have been neat to win two national events in Ohio with all of our friends and family there, but it wasn't meant to be this time.

"The car is perfect on one run and does... [Read More]

Defending series champion Coughlin takes early hit in Dallas

(9-21-2014) ENNIS, TX – Reigning Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. started his weekend at Texas Motorplex with designs on scoring two victories, one in the rain-delayed Charlotte event and a second in the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals. Neither one came to fruition, but the 58-time national event winner remains optimistic about his chances.

"We've got four races left, so we'll certainly make a strong effort," Coughlin said. "The whole team is extremely capable, and Allen (Johnson, teammate) has a great shot at winning the race today. He ran a real nice 6.56 there first round. I really felt like we were going to run a 6.56 or 6.57 ourselves even being first pair out. It just wasn't in the cards, as you say, so we'll move on to St. Louis next weekend."

Sunday morning, Coughlin faced Greg Anderson, and the two multi-time... [Read More]

Problems with race car causes Lucas Oil pro Morgan to miss Dallas field

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Lucas Oil Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan drove well at Texas Motorplex, but problems with his race car plagued him all weekend.

Morgan and his team battled with the tune-up, and he lost in the first round of the postponed Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals on Friday. Then Morgan couldn't find the speed in his Ford Mustang and failed to qualify for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals on Saturday.

"I hate it for Lucas Oil and all the people who help us," Morgan said. "We've got a problem with our front struts, and we think it's been a problem for a while now. We haven't had the 60-foot times we need. It's really been a problem lately, but we're working on it and I know we'll get it fixed."

Morgan's first pass Friday had him 16th in the order for Dallas, with Q2 also serving as... [Read More]

More points for Line with Carolina Nats finish, fired up for FallNationals raceday

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Jason Line and Texas Motorplex continued a warm friendship today as Line advanced to the final round at the delayed NHRA Carolina Nationals to give his points lead a bit of a cushion heading into the second race of NHRA's six-event Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Line, of Mooresville, N.C., didn't score the Carolina Nationals title, but he is plenty fired up for a second day of eliminations at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals on Sunday.

Line qualified in the No. 6 spot for the event that was originally slated to take place in Charlotte. Before the event was put on hold due to conditions in the area, Line made the quickest Charlotte pass of the weekend with a remarkable 6.533, 210.93 to knock out Chris McGaha's 6.856.

Todd, C. Force, S. Gray and Krawiec race to No. 1 qualifying positions at AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Courtney Force earned her fourth No. 1 qualifying position of the season Saturday at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals following her track record setting performance on Friday.

J.R. Todd (Top Fuel), Shane Gray (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also will lead their categories into Sunday’s 11 a.m. eliminations for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals. It is the second playoff race in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.

She raced to her seventh career No. 1 with a performance of 4.039 seconds at 314.90 mph in her Traxxas Ford Mustang. Her most recent No. 1 qualifying position came in Sonoma, an event she went on to win after defeating her father John in the final.

“It feels good to have the Traxxas Ford Mustang... [Read More]

Jonathan Gray wins Carolina Nationals, earns first Pro Stock trophy

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Rookie of the Year contender Jonathan Gray had no trouble grabbing attention when he blasted into the 2014 season of NHRA's Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at the third race of the year. Out of the gate, Gray proved he could run with the big dogs, and with Gray Motorsports power beneath the hood of his blue and flat black Chevrolet Camaro, he had quite a racecar to back up what fairly immediately seemed to be a natural ability to adapt to one of the most complicated categories in drag racing.

This weekend, at the delayed NHRA Carolina Nationals that concluded during qualifying for the FallNationals at Texas Motorplex, Gray earned the trophy in a side-by-side final-round battle with points leader, Jason Line. It was the first win in the third final round of a very young career that spans just 16 national... [Read More]

Texas-native Brogdon has some more 'heat' left in the engine for Dallas eliminations

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – With track temperatures off the chart at Texas Motorplex, Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon has kept his cool throughout the compacted weekend in Dallas.

After unfortunately losing in the first round of the postponed Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals to Jonathan Gray during Q2, Brogdon was able to turn his focus solely to qualifying for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals.

Laying down his fastest time of the weekend during the third qualifying session, Brogdon's 6.615-second pass at 209.79 mph landed him in the 11th spot. His Owens Corning Camaro will line up alongside No. 6 qualifier Erica Enders-Stevens.

"We qualified 11th and we still haven't made a good run," Brogdon said. "That last run we had an electrical problem in the car. We're not real... [Read More]

Another multi-time champion awaits Coughlin in Round 1 of Dallas eliminations

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Five-time and reigning Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. has drawn a familiar foe for the first round of this weekend's 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals with four-time titlist Greg Anderson on the opposite side of the ladder.

"We've battled many times with Greg and we've certainly had some fun through the years," Coughlin said. "He's a familiar foe and a great racer who definitely keeps you on your toes. He's won a bunch of trophies and four championships, so we expect another tough race. I wouldn't want it any other way.

"The guys made some good progress with the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Dart today, and we expect the same sort of conditions tomorrow, so we should be in good shape. As always, we'll be ready for the fight, against Greg and anyone else we have the... [Read More]

Aussie Tucker has Auzmet Camaro primed for success in Texas eliminations

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Shane Tucker has a unique plan to make his Auzmet Architectural Camaro a player in Sunday's elimination rounds at the 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals.

"We ran a bigger set of tires today," Tucker said. "Most of the teams run a smaller tire through qualifying because they're a little bit quicker and help you put a better elapsed time on the scoreboards, but we made the call to run a big-tire setup because that's what we're going to be running tomorrow.

"Sure, we might have given up a little bit in the qualifying order, but as far as the setup for Sunday, I think we're in a good position. I'm thinking we've put ourselves in a good position to race well in this heat and humidity."

Tucker will have a familiar foe in the first round of eliminations as he'll... [Read More]

Mach 1's Enders-Stevens goes for Texas sweep in Dallas

(9-20-2014) ENNIS, TX – Texas native Erica Enders-Stevens will go for the Lone Star sweep during the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals on Sunday at Texas Motorplex with her Mach 1 Global Services Chevrolet.

Enders-Stevens won at her home track, Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, in April. She'll chase the Texas two-step from the No. 6 qualifying spot on Sunday.

"Tomorrow is going to be the hottest, sunniest day of all," Enders-Stevens said. "We obviously performed well in those conditions. I'm optimistic about tomorrow, and the ladder looks nice. We'll see what happens."

Enders-Stevens, debuting Mach 1 colors in Dallas, can't win two races this weekend, as she dropped a second-round match on Saturday to Shane Gray in a continuation of the postponed NHRA Carolinas Nationals from zMax Dragway.
